Backwoods Distilling Co. is a family-owned Australian distillery based in Yackandandah, Victoria, producing award-winning single malt and rye whiskies that showcase authentic Australian character, provenance and craftsmanship. Using locally sourced grains and casks tied to Australia’s wine and spirits heritage, Backwoods creates distinctive whiskies that reflect the people, produce and landscapes behind every release. Recognised with major national and international awards, the distillery has built a strong consumer following and is now seeking international partners who value premium, independently produced spirits with genuine Australian provenance, proven quality and a compelling point of difference.

THE REGION & LOCAL INGREDIENTS

We use Australian grains and work with ingredients, casks and producers that reflect the character of the country and the region around us. Our whiskies are matured in Australian wine casks, including barrels that have previously held Shiraz, Chardonnay, Apera, Muscat and Tawny, and we have also explored the use of Australian red gum and other locally relevant maturation influences.

We are increasingly focused on strengthening direct relationships with Australian growers, farmers and regional producers so that the provenance of the grain, casks and other inputs is clearly understood and becomes part of the story of each release.
 

Beyond the ingredients themselves, our High Country location shapes the way we present Backwoods. The landscape, agricultural community, local partnerships and regional visitor experience all contribute to the identity of our spirits.
 

Our aim is to create whisky and gin that carry a genuine connection to Australian grain, people and place, giving customers a meaningful sense of where the spirit comes from and what shaped it.
