The Melbourne Gin Company (MGC) is one of Australia’s pioneering craft gin distilleries, founded in 2012 and proudly based in Victoria’s Yarra Valley. Renowned for its meticulous small-batch production, MGC combines the precision of winemaking with the artistry of perfumery to create award-winning gins of exceptional balance and character. Using individually distilled botanicals, including native Australian ingredients, and pure rainwater collected at the distillery, MGC crafts spirits that are both refined and distinctly Australian. Independent and innovative, the distillery continues to build on its reputation with a premium portfolio that reflects the creativity, craftsmanship and culture of Melbourne.

THE REGION & LOCAL INGREDIENTS

MGC is deeply connected to its home at Gembrook Hill, a five-hectare vineyard established in 1983 and nestled within a natural amphitheatre at the southernmost edge of Victoria’s renowned Yarra Valley wine region.

The location is more than simply where we distil. MGC founder Andrew Marks is a winemaker by background, and the agricultural and winemaking traditions of the Yarra Valley have shaped the way we think about ingredients, provenance and flavour from the beginning.

Wherever possible, we source locally and make use of ingredients grown or produced at Gembrook Hill itself. Rainwater collected on the property is used to cut our gins back to bottling strength, while Sauvignon Blanc grown on the surrounding Gembrook Hill Vineyard provides the juice for our PDG Pineau de Gembrook. The juice is fortified with MGC Single Shot Gin before being aged for four months in seasoned French wine casks, bringing the distillery andvineyard together in a single expression of place.

This connection between land and liquid is an important part of MGC. While our identity is unmistakably Melbourne, our spirits are made amongst the vineyards, gardens and landscape of the Yarra Valley, drawing on the region’s long traditions of growing, winemaking and craftsmanship.

It gives MGC a provenance we are particularly proud of: a Melbourne gin with its roots firmly planted in the Yarra Valley.
